Building the Shomera

Ignorance is bliss. Have I know what I was getting into I probably would not have started this overambitious building project on my own. Don't get me wrong, in spite of the very rewarding work I do in my daytime job and the technical challenges insignificant in comparison, the toll on my energy levels and resilience was tested to the limits negotiating the delivery and supply of the materials I needed and resolving all the small challenges along the way. I have totally underestimated the time it will take to get this all done and after a couple of months at this, I was mentally and physically drained.

Regardless, this is one of the personal achievements in life that I am immensely proud of and every day when I look out of the kitchen window at home, I am reminded that everything in life is possible by applying yourself to it and to persevering amidst all the challenges and curveballs thrown your way.

Clearing space for the project

2017/04/16

The small garden shed had to go to make space and this is when I realised that the back fence was total rotten behind it and an unbudgeted sub-project had to be executed prior to commencing the main project. An entire long weekend went into this, cleaning up the mess and replacing the back fence, not to mention the pile of junk created to be gotten rid of.
